Megan Trainor ft. Yo Gotti - Better

Music Video Of The Week

Hello there!

This week we have an unlikely artist, but nether the less a great music video. Meghan Trainor ft. Yo Gotti - Better connotates the feeling of deserving "better" from a guardian; in this case the female lead's grand father.

Music videos are produced to bridge the connection from artist to audience. When an artist talks and shows you a story of what they went through to get to where they are and in that journey something that corresponds to your life journey, you immediately feel a connection with them. Tim Mattia the director does exceptionally well conveying a woman who looks to only have one guardian in their life. However, the guardian has a drinking problem and is in and out of jail various times. She is constantly looking after him although it needs to be the other way around. We see the male lead in a church feeling ashamed and we are given the sense he also wants to do better, the next sequence also shows that he has acknowledged that the granddaughter deserves better.

The lighting used in the music video felt natural, all shots were pretty much flawless for me. I adore when videos look and feel natural, almost like you were there experiencing the events as they occur. In conclusion i feel this music video 'hits close' to those who have such events happening in their life. The music however according to sources say it is about an ex; this makes a ton of sense when you listen to the lyrics. I can see why the director opted to use a different story as the visuals of a man mistreating his lady has become a cliche.
