STARZ POWER RECAP: YOU LIED TO MY FACE S4E7
Hi and welcome back, I promised to be quick with my recap post, it's just finding time to write up all my notes. However, thank you all for sticking with me.
So let's get on with it!
ACT 1
Ghost and Tariq catch the subway home which reminded me that Kanan took the only ride they had. So subway it was! - not going to lie but Kanan had all that money, I'm sure he could have sorted his own ride.
There's a moment when Ghost gets paranoid, looking over at anyone who even faces their direction. He then looks over at a father and son. Nice, I guess this symbolises the normality of other families and how Ghost just wants a normal life for him and his kids. But like we’ve been saying all season, the man has too many skeletons in his closet.
It was interesting to see how relaxed Tariq was about all this. There’s ghost making that “I'm thinking about everything and everyone face” and Tariq sitting there like “I wonder whats for dinner tonight” Ghost is very protective of his kids and we see that here.
So Ghost and Tommy meet for the first time after Tommy found out Ghost and Kanan tag teamed the hell out of his hideout and took all that money stashed away. But like we said last week, Tommy will most likely let this one slide because it was over Tariq.
Ghost brings Tommy up to date with everything regarding Kanan/Slim and how Tariq was hanging out with him and Jukebox the whole time. You know what? Tommy is my new guy. I liked the way he told Ghost that if it was anyone else that robbed him, they’d probably be dead right now and I'm almost 100% sure he isn't joking. It was the way he sounded so apologetic about it like he’d have no choice.
Tariq overhears the whole conversation between the two. We’ve seen this before in Dramas. The - "my dad doesn't love me, he’s lying to me. When really he’s doing this to protect you" situation. I mean if my Dad was Ghost and i was living that baby boy lifestyle i won't be complaining right?
So Tommy's now updated with everything and quickly heads over to Tariq and asks the million dollar question. - Did Dre know anything about Kanan? Tommy has now hit number one in the Power ranking for me. The way he asked Tariq as if it was a simple question like “did you leave the oven on last night?” We know if Tariq answered yes. Dre would be in for a treat.
Next, The DEA team talk about their suspension and how they're going to use their skills to keep themselves clear. John Mak who was the lead prosecutor is just about doing my head in. I had your back in Fast and Furious but now, I don't even know who you are anymore. In all seriousness, Mak is becoming more of an asshole. Which is good, his character is meant to be hated.
Next, Tariq and Ghost are back at the Penthouse and Tariq raises his voice at Tasha. Yeah, he raised his voice… at his mum. I mean, I'm not sure what kind of balls this kid grew this season but that even took me back. The rise of a Savage and I know someone else who'd handle that situation a little differently, Tasha.
Ghost fills Tasha in about Kanan and you get a sense that this family were lucky this time. Things could've been so much worse if Kanan’s followed through with it all. Ghost pretty much blames Tasha about the whole situation and I'm not going to lie but I had to sympathise with Tasha. It wasn't her fault, how often have we lied to our parents about something. Good on Tasha with the sly comebacks, she was coming through with some stone cold truths.
They take their confrontation to a small room where daughter Raina overhears everything. We find out some juicy information here. That Tasha asked for the hit on Ghost. Is Tasha the original O.G here? Is she the shot caller? I have an interesting theory but I'll get into that later.
Simon Stern turns up to the penthouse... Is it me or does this guy always show up at the most unnecessary times? If I could request Tommy to do job on anyone it would definitely be this guy, however, I'm not sure if Tommy is taking requests.
So Stern asks Ghost to abide by some instructions and even though Ghost has quite a bit going on he does as he's told.
Tommy meets Dre in a location that at first I believed was the middle of nowhere. He confronts Dre insisting he knew about Kanan. Dre plays a good poker face and dodges the bullet… this time. It is later obvious to us that this middle of nowhere place is actually where Julio parked his car and we all know what happened to Julio. They find Julio's dead body and I'm not sure what Dre had planned but it kind of backfires. The Toros Locos gang member cut off his tattoo which makes it obvious to Tommy that it was them. Looks like a war may potentially break out and all this because Dre wanted to be the Distro? Damage level? Collateral.
Dre insists that Tommy promotes him but instead Tommy tells Dre to set up a meeting with the Toros Locos member. He exits the building giving Dre the job as Distro?
"I win mother fucker" - Dre.
You may have won the battle Dre but I don't think you've won the war.
ACT 2
Angela Valdez stays persistent about finding out who planted the gun in Truth that night. It's safe to say it's not about Ghost anymore.
Tommy and Ghost talk about Julio's death and how Tommy wants to get to the bottom of it. Ghost insists that he stays low and to be honest, the more Ghost talks the more selfish I think his bits of advice are. Tommy confronts Ghost about the Tape situation and how they haven't really been real with each other. Either way, Tommy takes matters into his own hands and visits the Toros Locos.
Tasha and Raina talk and Tasha receives back chat from another child. I think Tasha needs to pattern her kids. Slide off the slipper and drop a couple to the side of the head. Lines like “I'm waiting” from your high school daughter can not run. Tasha gives in and explains to Raina that Tariq got in with a bad group that included Kanan. They settle their differences with Raina taking her mother's side.
Mike talks to Saxe as he looks to stick Greg's murder on someone on the inside. We know it's him but he does his best to pin everything on Donavan. Meanwhile, Donavan meets Valdez and she asks him who knew about the surveillance.
Silver who I'm starting to think is a Wayans Brother meets with Tasha the scenes lit all magically, dim and romantic. Tasha flirts with Silver, giving him them "Shawn eyes". You can't trust her bro! You're going to get yourself killed!
Ghost meets with Proctor and Proctor tells him how Tommy killed homeland security in his apartment and how the tape has been destroyed.
Tommy and Dre are now with the Toros Locos members. The Locos beat into “Julio's killer” but Tommy doesn't buy it. He doesn't believe a guy like that could take out Julio. Tommy shoots him anyway and turns the gun at the Toros Locos member (Who we know killed Julio). Tommy, Incredible guy. This gangster must have respect for Dre, not snitching on him but like Dre tells him moments later... They both messed up.
Next, we're are this expensive looking penthouse with a man doing drugs. I must say, I've never seen coke done so elegantly. In breaks in 2 new characters. This crazy couple, I swear, this big rich town is full of psychopaths.
Scrap the elegant line this doesn't look fun and on that note, I'm going to take this time to say - don't do drugs kids.
The man is made to snort cocaine or his wife and child are killed. The man snorts so much cocaine - I'm talking SO much, he overdoses and dies. The two new characters talk and the man what looks like a half accident shoots the dead man's wife. The man then places cards on them. I Couldn't help but think I've seen this before? Ghost when he killed the gang leaders in season 1 or 2?
Ghost and his family are interviewed by this woman who I'm not too fond of. She looks to expose the St. Patrick's but good saves from Silver at their corner ensured they got through it.
Valdez, still on job - is paid a visit by Donavan. He believes the insider as Saxe. It looks like everyone is pointing the Greg murder at each other.
Dre meets Tariq and Tariq's already talking like his old man. He wants to get to the bottom of it all and tells Dre to speak the truth about it all as he owes him that.
Later on, Tommy meets with who seems to be the Leader of the Toros Lobos Diego Jimenez. A clever spot before he was introduced. You see a henchman in the corner rocking a pram and you could tell he wasn't happy but before I could put 2 and 2 together we are introduced to Jimenez and his wife Alicia Jimenez. We know what these guys are capable of because they just killed a father, mother and kidnapped an orphan. I think him and Tommy will get on well, the three of them are crazy Alicia looks to be a partner to Jimenez in a way she's calling the shots. Tommy continues to be bad ass, explaining how himself and Ghost killed Lobos and how these 2 new characters are wanted in Mexico.
Tariq is out here playing COD like he didn't witness a murder not even 24hrs ago. Ghost asks how Tariq and Kanan meet but Tariq covers for him. Tariq doesn't appreciate being lied to but we all know it's to keep him safe.
So Tasha lied to Ghost. She said she was out with one of her girl friends but she went on what looks like a double date with Silver! It's crazy how when Ghost did this it was fine but when Tasha does it, I feel a type of way. Maybe because the last guy was Ghost's driver/Kanan's son and the other is his lawyer. But hey ho.
It's Karaoke and Tasha is out here singing Whitney Houston. Not going to lie, this isn't EMPIRE. Silver, on the other hand, looks so proud it's like they've been in a 50-year relationship and it's their anniversary.
ACT 3
Next Mak and Mike talk about the gun incident. Mike my friend it looks like there are eyes on you! Count your day's bitch.
Tasha continues to get flirty with Silver and they share kiss. Hmm, Tasha is going to get this man in trouble. In a way isn't this the reverse of Ghost and Angela? Oooh.
This episode has really said a lot to me about Tasha and what's clever it's been there all in Jason and Jimenez it's their other halves, who really calls the shot. Their male counter parts are just the gun/the face. What confirmed this for me is when Ghost said the first time he put a ring on Tasha's finger was because she made him a better criminal. Also, it's how good Tasha is at covering for him. Let's also think back to when Jason almost shot Tommy it was Jason's lady who told him not to kill Tomm. In this episode Jimenez wife, Alicia did all the talking with Tommy, she was calling the shots. And to top it all off, Tasha was the one who told Ghost to kill Kanan, a partner and friend at the time. There's more to Tasha than what we are meant to believe.
The scene with Tommy and Tariq wanted me to have Tommy as an uncle. I know he'd have my back. Tommy tells Tariq that it's not the time for him to know the truth about him and his father's history.
it's hard to tell who's good or bad anymore - Tariq.
Ghost bumps into the interviewer at a social event and she's still pushing buttons. She leaves and Ghost is met by a man named Tate who offers Ghost his business card. Ghost wants out, he really does. Stern later warns Ghost about Tate telling him to stay away.
We see Tariq drinking and like we predicted, the kid's following a dark path. Looks like Kanan did his job.
Mike turns up at an apartment with a gun. I'm not sure who's home it is but what the hell is going on? I reckon it might potentially be Donavan's home as the daughter knew who Mike was. Who knows we may find out next week?
Donavan and Valdez go over the surveillance from Truth Nightclub and see that it was Mike walking up the stairs! Oh damn, it's all coming together now! Count your day's Mike, count your days! Saxe thinks Donovan is the insider but to his surprise, Donavan was in the apartment - he heard the whole thing. Nice bit of comedy here.
Tasha heads over to see Silver and at this point, I'm done with Tasha’s crazy self. They do the hanky panky and I couldn't help but think Silver - you've done it now!
Ghost and Tommy meet in Truth and talk about their secrets and how they need each other to close the book on their problems.
This was nice, There's always a time when Ghost and Tommy will need each other to move forward.
Ghost's problem: Killing the Marshall and Teressi being a witness. Ghost had to deliver a phone to Tommy.
Tommy's problem: Killing the homeland security in Proctors home, which meant ghost had to pay Proctor a visit about the recording.
Great story telling.
Ghost made a good point here. Proctor having the recording could come back to bite their asses. He could use that to save himself but would Proctor really do that knowing what Ghost and Tommy are capable of? It's not really worth it. I don't think they need to worry about Proctor but the snooping around of Mak is a problem, I must say.
Mak pays Proctor a visit. It seems like he did this just so he can send him verbal threats?
So the final scene
We have Tommy calling Teressi. Teressi talks about how he's getting old and he hints on family and confirms he's Tommy's father! Oh damn! This may have come as no surprise to some.
Tommy doesn't believe him at first but some things only a father would know was said which leaves Tommy speechless. Looks like Tommy will be picking up after his dad?
So that concludes this weeks blog. Thanks for reading! Make sure to share and tell your friends. It would be much appreciated!
Tune in next week,
Peace
